BEGINNING METALSMITHING II - Playing with fire

Description:
This is a continuation of techniques taught in Beginning Metalsmithing I. Students will work with a torch to join metal via soldering (sweat, paste, stick), and how to put the previously learned techniques of cutting, shaping and textures into practice. Discussion will center around how to combine techniques for workable designs. Students will be assigned 3 short exercises that will be combined into a finished piece by the end of the session.

 

Materials required to bring for class: solder pic, saw blades, dividers sharp nose tweezers, ruler, cross lock tweezers, bezel rocker, jewelry pliers (round, flat, chain nose), curved burnisher, bezel strip, hard, medium, and ez solder, 16 ga copper wire, 22 ga copper/brass sheet, Jewelers saw frame

Level: Beginning Metalsmithing (familiarity with sawing, piercing, filing, etc.)

Class size: Minimum 4, Maximum 8

Note: This course involves the use of chemicals as well as fires. Students are encouraged to wear old clothes or bring an apron.
