SURFACE DESIGN TECHNIQUES

Instructor: Becky Burt
Saturday and Sunday
9:00 am – 5:00 pm
June 20 - 21, 2015 (2-DAY WORKSHOP)

Description:
This class focuses on the methods of adding interest to the surface of metal. We will work with the rolling mill, stamping, etching, and hammer techniques as methods of adding interest to your work as well as utilizing PNP to transfer designs onto metal and etch them using ferric chloride. These textured pieces can then be used as templates or parts incorporated directly into artwork.

Please note that this is a process class, not a completion class. Students will spend the class making parts that can be incorporated into jewelry in the 3 day Cold Connections class that follows this class. There will be a balance of doing (texturing and etching), combined with theory and design discussions. If there is time on the last day, students may begin creating artwork.

Note: This class is designed for students with previous experience in metalworking, however, beginners or artists in other disciplines can also benefit. Please be aware that this course will involve the use of chemicals that may stain skin and clothing.
